During the summer months, wildflowers abound at all elevations in the Vail Valley. Over 300 species of wildflowers thrive in Eagle County. Early blossoms arrive between April and June and the colors last through the fall. The vibrant colors of the wildflowers are replaced by the brilliant yellow of the aspen leaves in mid-September. While in the backcountry, you're likely to encounter many different kinds of animals such as fox, deer, elk, marmot, coyote, moose, black bear, lynx, and lion.
