BRECKENRIDGE - Jennifer McAtamney has volunteered with numerous community organizations - particularly in areas of child care, education and housing - and continues an effort to improve quality of life for residents while maintaining her seat on Breckenridge Town Council.
"I really like to be engaged at that level of the community," she said, "helping to make policy and to make Breckenridge a better place to live and play, and raise a family."
McAtamney, 42, runs for her second term after joining council in 2006. She owns a small business that manages neighborhood associations.
Fellow candidate Larry Crispell said Saturday that McAtamney's work to support the town's childcare programs, among others, has been invaluable to the community.
She's also working to make a difference with environmental issues.
Through council, McAtamney is involved with the town's sustainability task force, which is to make available a $

BRECKENRIDGE - Breckenridge Ski Resort hopes to offer a new way to get down the hill. The resort has proposed to build an "alpine coaster," a 2,500-foot-long ride on rails that could be used both summer and winter, possibly even at night.
The proposed attraction would be located on Peak 8, above the Kids Castle, in a stand of lodgepole pine that now separate the Twister and Dyersville ski runs.
Vail Resorts will go before the Breckenridge Planning Commission on Tuesday night to present the application for the coaster.
According to Breckenridge spokesperson Kristen Petitt, the ride is similar to an alpine slide, except that its cars run on steel rails instead of a solid track. The cars would be propelled up the track to the launch point, much like those of a roller coaster. Riders would be strapped into the cars and would have the ability to control their speed. The resort hopes to operate the ride June 1 through Sept. 15 and early November through mid-April.

BRECKENRIDGE - Dave Rossi has at times been considered a fly in the ointment on Breckenridge Town Council.
"I'm not afraid to shake things up. I've gotten crossways with staff on some issues," he said, adding that there's always been mutual respect and trust between himself and the town's staff.
Rossi, 43, was one of two members of the seven-member council to vote against a controversial firebreak ordinance last year.
Upset residents petitioned to have the ordinance put on the fall ballot, and the council ultimately repealed the law's mandatory conditions.
Rossi has championed government transparency and has often asked town staff to conduct more research on an issue before a vote is taken.
"It's kind of forced me out of my comfort zone, but I'm not afraid of that," he said. "The council needs as many voices and perspectives as possible."
Rossi was the only council member against allowing the

SUMMIT COUNTY - Summit County Coroner Joanne Richardson released the identity of Wednesday's avalanche victim as 20-year-old Daniel Michelotti from Spring Grove, Ill.
Michelotti was snowboarding with two friends in the Steep Gullies area, just west of Arapahoe Basin Ski Area, when an avalanche carried him about 1,000 feet and killed him. According to Richardson, suffocation was the cause of death.
It took the two friends about 20-25 minutes to descend the slope and dial 911.
About 37 rescuers from Summit County Rescue Group, Keystone Ski Patrol, A-Basin Ski Patrol and Summit County Ambulance Service responded to the scene.
Michelotti moved to Colorado in November and was an employee of Breckenridge Ski Resort.

BRECKENRIDGE - The Town of Breckenridge this week terminated an agreement with developer Mercy Housing on the 42-unit Valley Brook affordable housing development after nearly two years.
"The economy - and the economics of the situation itself - was probably the biggest reason," Councilman Eric Mamula said Wednesday, adding that it will save the town money to develop it in "smaller chunks" rather than "one shot."
The development agreement for the estimated $12 million project, financed in part by the town and government grants, began in June 2008.
Mercy Housing Colorado president Jennifer Erixon said her company is gathering invoices so it can be reimbursed for costs to date.
"Ultimately, the council decided it needed to take an approach that didn't involve a third-party developer, and we respect that," she said.
The project hit choppy waters last fall when general contractor BASE Building Solutions pulled out, p
