THIS SEASON MARKS ARAPAHOE BASIN'S 56TH ANNIVERSARY, making it Summit County's oldest ski resort. But this is only one of the reasons that A-Basin is know as "The Legend" Set on the western slope of the Continental Divide, the Basin is famous for its steep and challenging terrain. Half the mountain is above timberline with open bowl skiing and snowboarding, and the Basins signature run, Palivacinni, is super steep and relentlessly mogul-studded. But the daunting right side of the mountain shouldn't prohibit those less skilled from visiting The Basin. In fact, 60% of the mountain is classified intermediate and novice, so skiers and riders of all abilities can enjoy the special charms of this smaller mountain. Amenities at the Basin include the Legends Cafe located at the foot of the mountain, the Midway Barbeue at the top of the Exhibition Lift and the Sixth Alley Bar, which offers apres-ski libations, as well as space for group functions. Arapahoe Sports has everything for the hill, including clothing rental. And by the way, if you're visiting Summit County in the spring and summer and think you've missed the ski season, check again.
